WELCOME
This research project presents a collection of companies and associations within the legal technology sectors of Germany and Brazil. The database is visualized dynamically through dashboards built in Google Looker, offering an interactive view of the Legal Tech ecosystems in each country.
By mapping companies, associations, and organizations, the research seeks to highlight leading players—whether for profit or non-profit —that are driving technological advancements and legal transformations. This includes startups, established firms and collaborative hubs that contribute to the development and dissemination of Legal Tech knowledge.

Industry Map 2024
This research involved exploratory data collection on the Legal Tech industries in Germany and Brazil, with the purpose of understanding the ecosystems in both countries. By analyzing the market landscape, the research seeks to foster international dialogue and test a methodology that can be applied to global market analysis. To ensure the study was aligned with the available time and resources, specific criteria were carefully defined and followed to maintain the intended scope. Details on the selection and categorization of organizations can be found in the Methodology section.
Brazilian Legal Tech Market
The primary source of data collection was the Legal TechRadar consolidated by AB2L - the largest institution representing the sector of Legal Tech in Brazil. In their website it is possible to find a list of the companies in a specific range of categories. Additional companies were identified through exploratory research and added to this previous list, together with adjacent data.
All the companies were re-categorized according to the methodology used in this study. Supplementary data on Brazilian companies was gathered from the Receita Federal website by consulting the CNPJ register, while further information was obtained from opened information, including the companies' official LinkedIn pages.
German Legal Tech Market
For the German Legal Tech sector, the research was primarily exploratory due to the absence of a centralized system which compiles all companies from the sector. There are recent research initiatives that seek to systematize and centralize data on the legal tech market in Germany. These initiatives should be encouraged as they foster innovation, promote collaboration and stimulate partnerships between different players such as legal tech companies, law firms, universities and public institutions.
The study involved gathering historical data and previous research, as well as official records from Germany's business registration system (Handelsregister.de), information from companies' LinkedIn pages and insights from legal tech events and conferences.

German Legal Tech Map
To be included in the German list, a company or institution needed to meet a primary criterion: it should operate under one of the recognized legal forms of business in Germany. Specifically, the organization should be registered as one of the following:
-
GmbH (Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung): A limited liability company offering the advantage of limited personal liability for its owners.
-
e.V. (eingetragener Verein): A registered association, typically non-profit, operating under German association law.
-
AG (Aktiengesellschaft): A public limited company, where shares can be traded on the stock exchange, suitable for larger businesses with extensive capital requirements.
-
UG (Unternehmergesellschaft): A type of limited liability company designed for small businesses, also known as a "mini GmbH," which requires lower initial capital but provides similar liability protection.
Other international market players also play a role as Legal Tech tools, influencing the country’s market strategy; however, they are not included in this study. A more comprehensive approach, focusing on Legal Tech at the European level, could incorporate these companies that are not mentioned here, as they were not registered as German entities.
For the purpose of this study, only one category was assigned to each business, ensuring that none of them would be repeated in the list. For this categorization, the primary product or legal solution offered by each business was analyzed and a category was chosen.
